The 2016 Disabilities Act recognizes an important new right for persons with intellectual disabilities, viz. the legal capacity to marry, own property, enter into agreements and conduct transactions, etc. through a system of limited guardianship and assisted decision making. The Act thus ensures that persons with disabilities have the right to equal recognition everywhere as any other person before the law.
