Supreme Court allows DLI to intervene in case concerning Civil Services Examination

The Supreme Court has permitted DLI to present its views in a case regarding increasing the number of attempts allowed to disabled candidates in the Civil Services Examination. On July 4, 2013, the Court was hearing an appeal by the Government of India against the order and judgment of the Madras High Court granting disabled candidates three extra attempts at the Civil Service Examinations compared to the ordinary candidates. DLI intervened in the case as an important issue regarding affirmative action is involved, viz. to give hearing, vision and orthopedic disabled candidates a fair chance at the Civil Services, additional attempts are required to be given to them on account of their physical disadvantage and the highly competitive nature of the examinations.
